Bebeto Nyamwamu

Data Scientist

Bebeto is a Kenyan machine-learning engineer and data scientist specialising in the Python AI ecosystem, who aims to develop end-to-end pipelines for descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analytic purposes. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Geospatial Engineering from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and has a background in artificial intelligence (AI), including generative AI, reinforcement learning and computer vision.

Bebeto has worked as a data scientist and analyst for various companies and start-ups. In particular, he collected, cleaned and organized data from online sources for biofood establishments, hotels and restaurants at Dalberg Research, a research company focusing on the inventory, collection and analysis of primary data. He also worked as a data scientist for Ajua, an integrated customer experience platform for African businesses.

To be continually updated and upskilled, Bebeto actively engages in different data science and machine-learning engineering activities. He has participated in several socially impactful projects with Omdena (a collaborative platform to build innovative, ethical, and efficient AI and data science solutions), including a UNICEF/ITU initiative to identify school locations in Sudan from satellite images through computer vision and deep learning.

Bebeto regularly takes part in Zindi data science competitions, and recently ranked 7th in a Swahili sentiment analysis hackathon. In his spare time, he enjoys swimming and cycling.
